Symposiums

Almost every Thursday night, Polybian gathers to discuss a relevant political, philosophical, and/or economic topic. With a broad spectrum of perspectives on display, we take turns sharing thoughts, allowing the conversation to flow naturally. Dinner from Allegro’s Pizza is provided!

Some topics are very specific, others are broader in focus. Topics are chosen weekly by the Polybian Board, but members are welcome and encouraged to pitch ideas! There are only two pre-determined topics: our Halloween Conspiracy Symposium and Valentine’s Day Love Symposium. Take a look at our previous symposium topics posted below!

Initiation Ceremony

Polybian’s semesterly initiation is for new members to be officially inducted into the community! By tradition, initiation features a character debate where members choose a well-known personality (dead or alive, political or apolitical, nonfictional or fictional) to discuss, in character, what your ideal society would look like and what you take issue with in other characters’ ideal societies. Following the symposium, new recruits sing the Swedish song “Helan Går” then sign their name in our Members’ Journal.
